After 6 years of undergraduate studies, which was supposed to be 4 years in a normal and functional academic system, my journey is finally over.
I was admitted to the University of Lagos in 2018 to study Economics. There was an ongoing ASUU strike then so I couldn’t resume until January 2019.
The picture I had was by 2022, I would have been done with my undergraduate studies, I couldn’t be more wrong. I made plans around this whole picture.
In my first year, I had a wholesome experience, academics and all. It was blissful. We had Freshers` night, Hall Week, Departmental and Faculty Weeks, and Sports Week (I didn’t participate in them, so my memories of them are blurry), and many social events.
My first year was a wake-up call for me, it was easy to be distracted by the whole lot of activities going on in Unilag then, it was full of activities.
I didn’t participate in these activities, but I had my side-quests like watching movies. I watched many movies in my first year including Game of Thrones from Season 1 to Season 7 before Season 8, the finale was released.
The experience of living in a school hostel was another thing. I stayed with my friend Tomiwa at Jaja Hall (Squatter Lifestyle). Jaja Hall was hell on weekends and Sundays.
Fast-forward to the end of my first year: We packed our bags looking forward to the New Session of 2020.
Then some significant events occurred that changed everything. COVID-19 struck in 2020.
Before the Covid-19 holiday, we were sent home for two weeks due to the ASUU warning strike. When we returned from the two-week warning strike, I came prepared and restocked my foodstuff and provisions to deal with the rest of the semester.
Then we got a memo from the school management that we were to vacate the school and go to our homes indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. ASUU embarked on another strike. This delayed us for more than a year, and it was no longer possible to graduate in 2022. I was a 200-level student for two years.
My third year was the toughest for me, I struggled the first semester of the 300 level. I’m skipping some experiences, I don’t want to share them.
My final year as a student of Economics, I don’t know what to say but I can say it was kind of the best one for me. I had a wholesome experience; I had fewer classes and courses but more to read, final year project, final year exams, and final year week, my highlight of the final year week was the costume day, which I cosplayed as Obito. Then came the whole pressure of meeting the deadline for submission of the project, then the project defense.
Today, I officially conclude my undergraduate studies. I didn’t attend the convocation ceremony and I couldn’t do a photo shoot, so sorry no pictures. But I did go out to a friend’s place today with some other friends. We ate, drank, played games, and watched a movie; It was our little fun celebration.

I want to appreciate my mother for always being there, she is the best. I’m also thankful for the people I met on this journey; Bola, Victor, Nifemi, Nelson, Timileyin, Temiloluwa, Joshua (Ikechukwu Bad Boy 😂), Ayo, Adeola, Joshua, Ifedimeji, Toluwalase, Eniola, Joshua, Tomiwa, Timi, Moses, Prosper, BCU, Kryptocians, Enactus Unilag, AoA, Chasers Community, my roommates from my first year to final year.
If I skipped any name, please don’t take it to heart. I’m only a mortal man after all.
